Timer Warner Austin and Cablecards. UGH!

January 26th, 2008 · No Comments

Last week was our appointment with Time Warner Cable to install a multi-stream cablecard in our Tivo HD (our holiday gift to ourselves.) Once again they sent a contractor who knew nothing about cablecards, much less the technical aspects of delivering cable — which I know because we had to spend two hours together while he made phone call after phone call asking for help and complaining about the lack of support he got from the home office.

I’m not sure why I’m still surprised that an installer, supposedly technical enough to diagnose problems with reception and installation issues, doesn’t know diddly squat about the devices that a customer is legal entitled to hook up to the cable line and the cable company has to provide service to. But I am surprised, and disappointed. If they aren’t going to let me do it, they should be competent in doing it themselves.

Anyway, after two hours of babysitting the contractor, he left without our Tivo receiving all channels, claiming it would take 24 hours for the remaining channels to show up. We both knew it was an excuse but I just wanted him to leave. I hope he didn’t expect a tip! HA! The next morning I called the cable co and complained things weren’t working and they had a manager give me a call. When I explained the situation, he was able to fix it remotely and the second Tivo was now working. HURRAY!
